group therapy
Group therapy involves a small number of people meeting together meeting with a therapist. The group setting is a great place to better understand oneself, address problems and concerns, both general and specific, learn from others and work on communication skills. It is an effective way to deal with everyday stressors, for both children and adults.
Different types of group therapy
The type of Group Therapy depends on what the topics and goals are. Some groups have goals that are focused on specific problem areas. It is common that those groups have a set number of sessions. Other groups focus on more general topics that we deal with in everyday life. In those groups, the number of group sessions tend to be on-going, with no specified ending time.
WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
Group therapy for pre-teens and adolescents takes advantage of teenagers’ need to connect with their peers. It is also a comfortable place for them to discuss current issues and work on struggles in not only peer relationships, but also conflict with parents and other adults. It is very common that they share similar concerns, which helps to increase their comfort in sharing and solving problems. The learning and practice of positive communications and life skills is invaluable during these developing years.
